10 Questions
CATEGORY: blog
July will see a steady surge of activity in an effort to roll out the new magazine. You'll be seeing interviews taking place in the forum and chat and elsewhere, articles appearing in blogs, lots of song reviews, and a bit of expansion in the ranks as we begin extending our reach.
( comments)
One new feature we are launching today is yet another twist on the Proust Questionnaire. We will be asking some of the same questions and some of our own and we ask you to please participate. We'll publish some responses in the magazine as well as integrate them within indieonestop.com, where visitors will be able to scroll through random responses and get to know our creative assembly of artists in what will become, I think, a unique and fascinating process.
I'm putting some finishing touches on the coding, but the first question set for early bird participation.
Please CLICK HERE to start. More to follow in the coming days.

Rotcod Zzaj, Eric Hausmann, John M. Bennett - "His Monotonous Beard" - Summer 2008 Compilation -- Track #2
CATEGORY: blog
Some (quite a few, actually) of the recording artists on IndieOneStop have been a part of my own musical life for 20 years or more. Back in the GAJOOB zine days. It's very cool to still be exchanging music and views lots of folks whose music you know so well.
( comments)
When I first heard "His Monotonous Beard" I was floored; and I'm sure I get an added dimension of pleasure listening to this track due to having experienced music from each of these creative monsters separately and in collaboration with still other "hometapers".
But regardless; if this is your introduction to Rotcod Zzaj, Eric Hausmann, and/or John M. Bennett (Zzaj KEYboards, Hausmann GUITar, Bennett - vOIce) you're in for a treat.
ENJOY!

Homemade Music Summer 2008 CD Compilation
CATEGORY: blog
The first song on the summer compilation is from one of my favorite recording artists, Anton Balsam. I first heard of this Norwegian musician via a tape sent from Jan Bruun's Hypertonia cassette label in the early 90's. The band was called Areknuteknyterne and along with his solo Best Of cassette, I had found another favorite.
( comments)
Anton describes his summer song, " Sumarnatta" here: "This is my take on a ballad by the norwegian composer Geir Tveitt (1908-1981) called "Vi skal ikkje sova bort sumarnatta" - meaning something like "Let's not waste the summernight by sleeping". The song is originally a tender, lyrical piece - so I thought it would be funny to do it more "vikingish" - with manly singing, bombastic percussion and ..eh kazoo. I had a great time doing it, and haven't made this kind of music since the early nineties."
ENJOY!

Summer Summer Summer

Turns me upside down.
( comments)
I spent Sunday driving back a forth up and down the northern part of the state of Utah. The canyons are beautiful at just this time of year. It was hot and it feels like summer's going to barge in and slame the door on winter here, once again.
I remember a year or maybe even two years back I proposed doing a summer compilation. And since summer is timeless we may as well do it again.
We've got a head start with some tracks submitted previously. So if you want to participate, sent admin a note. We'll pick a few of our favorites and put together a cd to help the site. We'll also have a jukebox here to play them as they come in.
To revisit the tracks we've got to this point, I'll post them one at a time right here in this blog.

IndieOneStop Radio
CATEGORY: blog
You can program your own radio stations here at IndieOneStop. It's easy.
( comments)
Once you're in your control panel, just click the "Stations" link and you're on your way. Whether you are an "artist" or a "member" you can create a station.
You can listen to radio stations already created by going to the "RADIO" link in the white menu above.
You might want to browse through the song listings in the radio control panel and choose a few of your favorite and comment about them. Maybe make it a weekly feature in your blog to build more interest in your presence here.
And just 'cos it's fun too. I just updated mine, so check it out

R.I.P. Scott Johnson - Love, Calvin

Scott Johnson

April 3, 1957 - May 3, 2008
Scott's music can be found on indieonestop.com HERE.
Services are May 10, 2008. Please go to the funeral home site to read the obituary and contribute to the guest book listings. Scott left behind two daughters and four grandchildren. I'm sure they'd love to hear from people around the world who will continue to be touched by Scott's music.
I first heard Scott's music in 1992 when he sent me a tape called "Mr. Joy." I played that tape in my car all summer long and it's still one of my alltime favorite albums.
Go Go, Scott. I love you, man.

John Bergin's upcoming movie
CATEGORY: blog
John Bergin sent us some amazing cassette packages as TRUST OBEY back in GAJOOB's days of print publishing. Along with the music, Bergin was the author/illustrator of several graphic novels which came our way as well. During a day of web surfing for old contact, I found John's web site and discovered he's been a success album cover designer as well.
( comments)
Anyway while surfing around I discovered Bergin been working for a couple years on a movie based on one of his graphic novels. There are some clips and still online and John's been keeping a blog as well. I'm really looking forward to this.

Many More Weekend Additions
CATEGORY: blog
We've added several features over the weekend. We've been playing around with the tab categories and added a "Commentary" tab where you'll see new links to Musician blogs (that's you artists), along with a "CREATE" link (if you're logged in) so you can leave a quick post without leaving the main area. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and whatnot here. IF you find something cool in your internet travels, you might want to stop over and share it here as well. A blog post can be something as quick as sharing a YouTube link (just copy and paste the embed code -- it's easy). Oh, and while we're talking commentary, click on the "RANDOM SONG" link. I think it's a really fun way to listen to new music. So listen and tell us what you think. Keep clicking the link and a new random song will follow. The "comment" links throughout the site have been made easier to access this weekend. You'll find links to song details in all the chart listings.
( comments)
Artist profiles have some new features. You'll find links to details for each song, a listing of visitor comments, links to your blog posts and shared links, and a new guestbook where visitors can leave their mark.
Oh, and under the "Content" tab, you'll find a bunch of flash games you can play while listening.

Calendar of Events
CATEGORY: blog
You have always been able to enter events into your artist profile page; but we haven't displayed them out front for a while. Now just click on the "New" tab and click the "EVENTS" link to display all the upcoming events from all artists in the IndieOneStop community. Obviously, it's a feature that's a bit dusty since I had to enter an event myself to kick-start things a bit. These events will also show up on your profile page.
( comments)
You'll notice that events now also have the capacity to include ticket sales. We're currently putting some finishing touches on IndieOneStop's digital and online sales backend and ticket sales, along with various digital sales items (mp3's, PDF's for books and magazines, art, etc.) will all be supported.

Press Kit
CATEGORY: blog
We've added a press kit link to the artist profiles viewable out in the main site. We've also added a couple extra fields in your Artist Profile in which you can enter information such as booking and anything else you might want to put on your Press Kit page. Clicking the PRESS KIT link will generate a PDF on the fly, containing this information, allowing venues, publishers, and others to get a quick print out of your activities for reference.
( comments)
So, update your Artist Profile information. I'll be updating the Press Kit with other items, but this basic format should be useful.

New Additions: Store Updates, Infobase Flagging
CATEGORY: blog
This weekend was spent with further coding to begin bringing our artist's store items out to the front. You'll notice a new "Shop" button in the navigation bar. For those of you who are new to IndieOneStop, our store is created both by IndieOneStop selling items by artists on consignment and by our community of artists on the site selling items either directly from their own or an affiliated label's web site, CDBaby, or Amazon. There is no shopping cart for physical items -- if you want something, support the artist directly by purchasing it. Then drop a note to the artist directly at IndieOneStop to let them know you got and what you think.
( comments)
Currently the IndieOneStop Shop is quickly coding the music we have and we should have that completed within the next couple of days. After that, we'll be adding more categories as we open up new categories of artists: Publishers with zines to sell, Artists with posters to sell, etc.
You'll also notice a new "Services" button in the main naviagation bar. This is currently under development; probably several weeks out we should have this well on its way to integrating the services of our artist community in a way that visitors can find services being offered by all kinds of artists.
Lastly, I've coded a new feature into our Infobase (click the "Content" tab) that allows you flag entries for viewing in a combined list of your own flagged entries. This should be helpful if you're looking for publications to review your CD, for instance. You could run down the list of entries in the "publications" and "reviews" categories, flagging possible choices as you go.
Basically what happens when you click the "Flag This" button is that it places a link to that item in a box which can be found in your profile. Feel free to just delete the code in this box whenever you want to start with a fresh flagged list.
