Brad Krieger has been painting and exhibiting work both regionally and nationally for the past 26 years. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (1977) and a Master of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (1981). He has been playing trumpet since the sixth grade, but never felt like he was playing “music” until he began to work with improvised sound. He first improvised in the mid-1990’s with Zen Monk/Poet/Musician, Seido Ray Ronci. Brad joined the performance group Howlooseanation in 1999, and hooked up with current musical colleagues The Mighty Vitamins in 2002. For Brad, painting and music are two paths to approach the same muse: to create, to be alive, to be free.

Jay Kreimer is an alchemist of hardware stores, surplus catalogs, and discarded objects. He is a musician, sculptor, composer, and inventor of crackpot musical devices. He teaches writing, creative problem solving, leadership and art courses at Doane College in Lincoln, Nebraska. He has played music clubs in the region for a long, long time, and participated in the Mighty Vitamins triumphant parade march in Lucas, Kansas, home of the Garden of Eden. With his wife, the weaver Wendy Weiss, he shows sound/textile/sculpture/video installation art through the U.S. and Canada, with large-scale work in San Francisco and D.C. in 2006.

Jerry Johnston has been playing music since he picked out commercial jingles on a neighbor’s piano when he was a kid. Since then, it’s been 6th grade trombone lessons, a parade of piano teachers, guitar chord books, and countless choirs. He picked up with Jay Kreimer around 1990, and has played a variety of instruments in bands with him ever since. Some career musical highlights have been winning First Place in the Adam’s Apple Parade in Lucas, Kansas for “Best in Futuristic Music,” playing wild Mardi Gras parties in Southwestern Nebraska, and performing and recording avant-garde music for modern dance troupes. Johnston grew up moving every three years or so between Air Force Bases. His ancestral home is Kentucky, so he’s full of lore (as some have put it). He loves conversation, baseball, travel, bird watching, writing, outsider art, and, of course, his charming wife Trixie. Johnston is Morning Edition Host for NET Radio, Nebraska’s statewide NPR network, and teaches Religion and Philosophy courses at Doane College in Lincoln.

Luke Polipnick is an improvising guitarist and composer originally from the Twin Cities, now living in Lincoln, NE. He has performed in settings ranging from traditional jazz to free improvisation, contemporary electronica to the popular music diaspora. He has played and performed with Tatsuya Nakatani, Adam Linz, Michael Lewis, and Anthony Cox, and is currently studying composition with Dr. Randall Snyder at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. His current musical projects include Volcano Insurance, a Twin Cities-based post-jazz trio performing his compositions; Flamethrower, an electric quartet focusing on a hybrid of free jazz and punk rock; Giraffe, and experimental electronic duo; and the Mighty Vitamins, a non-idiomatic improvisation ensemble integrating any and all styles and influences. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, dog, two cats, and record collection whenever possible.
